Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga have unwittingly found
themselves in a Twitter war, instigated by Bieber fans who want to overthrow
"Poker Face" singer Gaga from her position as the most followed
celebrity Twitter.
And to make matters worse, the campaign to oust from office
Gaga took force on Wednesday - which, perhaps not coincidentally, is the
birthday of 26, the singer.
A Twitter message on Sunday, explains the reasoning and
methodology behind the micro-blogging jihad against the domination of Lady Gaga
Twitter.
"All Beliebers This is an operation Unfollow Lady
Gaga," the message reads. "Sorry if 'little monster' the one, but not
ou want Justin to be # 1, followed on Twitter? Well, here's the plan we all
know that all Twitter follow Beliebers with Justin and we need not ceate a
million accounts with this plan. first is very easy lok Lady Gaga on Twitter.
Failure to follow along with it. simple! I'm not trying to trash Gaga or
whatever I am an FSAN of his music, but I think Justin should be # 1 followed
on Twitter! that's it, but please believers to spread the word for me right?
Thank you all who helped! "
For those unfamiliar, "Beliebers" is the name of
your pet for fans of Bieber, and "little monsters" is the name of
your pet for fans of Gaga. Spelling mistakes and grammatical errors in the
previous paragraph it was said in context and preserved for flavor.
Since then the campaign - which bears the hashtag #
OperationUnfollowGaga - has become a trending topic on Twitter and has provoked
outrage throughout the Twitter community.
"I really Beliebers? That's pathetic," mocked a
fan of Gaga.
"Beliebers tended to Justin Bieber #
OperationUnfollowGaga becomes more often women," another party Gaga
cracked. "Stupid as it is giving Gaga more followers."
Even Bieber fans have seen in horror as the campaign spread
through Twitter like wildfire.
"I am a Belieber and I will not stop following Gaga.
People who started this TT Beliebers not real, they are just sick people,"
lamented a fan Bieber is on the Twitter "flow".
"Really? That's really pathetic guys," said
another fan Bieber, worrying about what the trend could make the reputation of
Beliebers everywhere. "And you wonder what can be labeled as 12 years
old."
So far, the campaign has been successful. Lady Gaga is still
on the list of Twitter followers of this writing 21,764,871 compared with
19,070,722 of Bieber, according to counter Twitter. And while Bieber has gained
about 164,000 followers in the last three days, Gaga has also accumulated
followers at a rate even faster, turning in about 184,000 new Twitter followers
in the same period.
Neither Bieber or Gaga has spoken about this very civil war
in the Twittersphere.
But maybe that's not so surprising in the case of Lady Gaga,
as he recently took a vow of silence.
